Spike in Data Usage

Hello,

I recently move to a new plan whereby my monthly data limit moved from 2.5gb to 12gm per month. Under my previous plan, I rarely went close to using the 2.5gb in any given month. On my current plan, 2 months out 4, I have exceeded my 12gb limit and that data has been used in 24 hour period, very early into the new billing period. The vast majority of time both at work and home, I am on WiFi.

Most of the apps for mobile data are turned off. This is very frustrating.

Any thoughts?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Thanks, Cretsiah,

Unfortunately, no phone upgrade or use of Netflix.

I appreciate the response.

if its not Android (itself)  racking up 3Gigs/hr

and your not using netflix (also capable of 3Gigs/hr)

has me a little stumped sorry

- have you tried running an anti virus/malware scan on your phone?

- do you use a VPN service?

Re: Spike in Data Usage

@CharlesJ @CharlesJeffries

Which phone are you actually using? I think that an assumption was made that it was an Android Phone.

Most current Smart Phones are able to provide you with data usages on Cellular Networks as part of their Settings.

For Android, you'll find this in: "Settings > Data Usage"
For Apple, You'll find this in: "Settings > Mobile"

In both instances, you should then be able to see a list of your apps and how much data each have used.

When you check this, do any stand out?
